Has anyone ever had patches of small circular hair loss?

This past February, I udenly lost a quarter sized patch of hair on my scalp. The doctor could not figure it out, so I went to a dermatologist. He said it is a condition called alopecia areota and does not really have a cause. If this has happened to you or someone you know, please respond and tell me what you know about it. My hair FINALLY started to grow back, but it took almost 4 months. It was very upsetting. I am 36, female.

I've seen it with my friend

Alopecia is usually associated with stress so I would go back to your GP with the diagnosis and have him cheack out you thoroughly.

My friend had the same thing, except he is male. His hair hasn't grown back yet, and he has the patches all over his body, not just on his head (on his legs and arms). I forgot the exact name but it was diagnosed as some type of disease.

It comes from stress. My wife had the same problem and the doctor told her to reduce her stress. She did and it went away.

I hope this helps.

This happened to me also. I was told that it can be related to stress, which made sense to me due to the stress in my life at that time. My hair grew back also.
