How do you dye black hair?

you have to dye it blonde first.

then you dye it whatever color you want.

depending on what color you want to dye it, you need to leave it in longer. if the box says 20 minutes, try 30... you should see some change in the color.. if not leave it in. dont excede 40 minutes tho. if you really want a change, go to a salon and explain the problem, they will do a one color treatment for like 35- 40 bucks.

its difficult to dye black hair without damaging it coz for the colour 2 b noticed u have to bleach it 1st then dye. this will make ur hair too dry and brittle. u can do gradual colouring, meaning, lighten a shade lighter everytime u dye. it wont show at the beginning but with time u will b getting the lighter shade that u want

Either leave it in longer, heat process, or bleach it. I dyed my black hair red without any problems.

Buy a lightening cream, you do not have to go blonde just lighten it till the strong dark color is gone, then put color on it, keep in mind the color is going to gram fast as your hair will be porous. Also roots are going to be hard to keep up if your hair is black, so do something manageable.

Assuming you want to go lighter....

Years ago, you would use a hair lightener which contained peroxide...which would basically bleach the hair first (not the bleach for fabrics type, however), and the hair would be a shade of blonde. Then you would dye the hair the color you want. (Note of caution: You may not want to use peroxide if your hair texture has been chemically altered, such as curly permed, straight permed, etc) Beauticians may have another way of priming hair for taking color. Clairol's Frost and Tip can add light to medium brown highlights to black or dark-colored hair.
