What can this be??? [HAIR & SCALP.]?

okay, my hair is really thin and i know it's not because of my age because i'm only 23 years old. well, i always wear my hair up in a bun on my head or whatever but it's always up, and thats because i see it's gotton very very thin over these past like 3 years. i have no ideal why? i just know it's very stressful and annoying. it won't grow any, and i used this hair product for regrowth, but it didnt work.

Do you think i could have something, like a cist in my head or can weight gain, poor diet cause this. i dont know but if i decide to go to the Doctor, what kind of Doctor should i see?????

I also, have this red kinda inflammed little tiny circle on my head, and it's been there for the longest and wont go away. I also lose a lot of hair wheni wash it. when i lift my hair up in the back to see it in the mirror, i can see the root, it looks like theres only 1 hair coming out each hair follicle. =[

What should i do? What do u think it is??

Thank You So Much! Take Care!

First, let me say, I'm not a professional. I believe that it could be a number of reasons. You mention poor diet and stress. I believe those can be major contributors to your condition. A friend had experienced hair thinning then hair loss for many years from her early 20s until late 20s. Once she married and moved away from her parents, her hair began to grow again. Also, continuing to wear it in a bun, indicates to me that you are placing undue stress on your scalp. You may want to find hair styles that allow your hair to be loose.

I would suggest a book. Yes, a book. It's is called You Can Heal Your Life, by Louise Hay. She talks about the emotional connection to illnesses and ailments. My friend and I both swear by it. You too may find it helpful. Best of luck to you.

GO TO A DOCTOR...just a regular doctor and if they need to refer you to a specialist they will.

I would go to my family doctor. It could be something as little as stress or diet, or it could be ringworm or something wrong with your thyroid. Go to the doc.

The red spot may be psoriasis. also from having your hair up in a bun it can pull at the hair making it more suceptible to fall out. It can be your diet and exercise routine too. but you need to go to the doctor to figure out which one it is. it could also be alopecia which is a genetic disorder in which your hair falls out.

This doesn't sound like premature balding. Ponytails and such can cause breakage but thats usually around the hairline.

Have you used any strange or unusual chemicals or have you been having a problem with your water supply ? Is there anyway you could be ingesting something toxic ?

Either way....I think it is imperative that you see your primary care provider. Although cosmetologists are trained in various forms of hair and nail disorders we are not doctors.

As for poor diet, weight gain and things like that are definately not good for the hair but I do not believe that would be the cause....

As to the inflammed circle, you didn't say where on your head but it very well could be related....Stress can cause hairloss as well but its not the mai factor here, nor is your hairstyle. Depending on that answer, it may indicate whats going on...

As to your question regarding a cyst, most likely not, cysts tend to be extremely localized, usually the result of oils produced by your hair which ends up blocked below the skin. I had one on my cheekbone and had surgury. I let them try to drain it with a needle in the office but it was too waxy.

I don't think its cause to become overly upset but sometime in the next few weeks you should make an appointment with your doctor and have some routine bloodwork done...

It sounds like your problem is worsening, and if it is something very specific, the sooner you resolve it, the better. I wish I could offer product suggestons or other help but this is honestly a medical problem.

The good news is that so much can now be treated...Hair and nails are extremely good indicators of a health problem. Maybe just print this out and bring it with you to the doctors. I do not recommend trying anything new on your hair right now until you find out whats going on....It may be something very simple and no licensed stylist is qualified to diagnose or treat issues like this. You may end up needing a pro stylist eventually but you need a medical opinion....

I hope this helps....hang in there and email to let me know how it works out. Good luck.

Alot of things can cause hair loss...hormone changes, lack of vitamins %26amp; minerals, medications, stress, to many bad hair products, straightening irons, hair breaking off due to putting it up and breaking the ends with bad rubber bands.

I would try taking hair vitamins (pill form) you can buy at vitamin shops and use good hair protein packs and gentle shampoos and silicon combs to comb out wet hair. If these don't work, I would have the doctor look at the problem.
